Press Release Body: In a match that was being speculated as being some tough competition, the performances said something else. The Lions of Chandigarh defeated the Delhi Giants by a good difference of 34 runs. TP Singh was awarded Man of the Match for his all round performance of 38 runs and 2 wickets for just 8 runs.
In accord with the ongoing trend of opting to bat first, the Lions won the toss and did just the same with the captain of the team in absence of Cairns being Hall. The batting was opened by Vincent and Elliot who managed to score 44 runs by the end of the Power Play just when Vincent was sent back by Benkenstein on 20. TP Singh joined Elliot in the batting attack and managed to rotate strike, till Elliot got out by the end of the twelfth over. A couple of players came on and off the field with Singh staying in there. The total runs put on the scorecard were 153 for the loss of 6 wickets. The Lions innings saw some big sixes hit by the players and a number of well-timed fours.
Delhi Giants came in to bat after the innings break with Gunawardene and Mishra opening strike and Hall with the bowling attack. These players however were sent back long before the Power Play was over. Runs kept coming in at a considerable pace but the regular loss of wickets could not be compensated for. Bali made the highest score of 31 but the team finished off at 119 runs. Delhi Giants tried their best but were not up to the mark in their performance. Lets hope they do better in their forthcoming matches.
